948 Brewing
Your Name/position: Kyle/Dave
1. What was the first beer you had that made you realize craft beer was going to be a bigger part of your life?
Homebrewing it was a basic Pale Ale kit, it was good but we knew with a little modification it could be great. Commercially, our first brew was our Extra Terrestrial Bitter, it was amazing to try it for the first time when it was in the tanks getting ready for release.
2. What is your favourite style to brew and why?
Don't lock us down like that! We love to brew anything and everything! Old world braggots, Fruit beers, IPAs, Jalapeno infused pale ales, nothing is off limits. The best part of being a craft brewer is experimenting.
3. If you were stranded on an island (with a working refrigerator that automatically replenishes itself) and you could only have one beer for the rest of your life in that fridge, which would it be?
Ouch. Locking us down to one again but that's one amazing fridge. Extra Terrestrial Bitter (ESB) for Kyle, No Joke (IPA) for Dave
4. What is your favourite music to listen to in the brewery?
Rock Alternative/Pop Punk (Kyle) until he gets kicked off and the rest of the staff plays 60s-90s Classic Rock and Oldies
5. Which other brewery has inspired you the most? Why?
Outcast Brewing and Storm Brewing (Vancouver) - No limits! Pushing the edge of flavours and always trying new things
Tool Shed - The hours of advice and lessons before we opened our doors
Red Bison - For giving us a shot and our first contract
6. Single hop beer - which hop are you using?
Centennial all the way. We grow our own here in Airdrie.
7. What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone who thinks they want to get into the craft beer industry?
Don't buy new. The used market is amazing. Find something in your budget that can get you started.
8. Dogs or cats?
Dogs
9. Why did you choose to start a craft brewery in Airdrie?
This is where we grew up. We wanted to give back to the community that's given so much to us
10.What would you consider the “hidden gem” of your town?
Our biking and walking paths. You can get anywhere here without driving if you take the time to enjoy the journey.
Take a break on your journey down HWY2 and stop in for a great pint of beer at the super friendly brewery 948 Brewing Company! https://948brewing.ca/
